You should start the financial aid process as soon as you receive your acceptance to FNU. All required financial aid documents are due one week prior to your Frontier/Bridge/DNP Bound orientation.
Bridge students have the same financial aid eligibility as our other programs, which is $20,500 per award year in unsubsidized loans. Since the end result of your program is a graduate degree, the ADN-MSN Bridge program is counted as a graduate program.
Graduate students are eligible for $20,500 in unsubsidized loans per year unless you have reached the maximum aggregate loan limit of $138,500, are currently in default on a student loan, or do not have a valid U.S. citizenship.
No. Since graduate students are not eligible for what can be considered "need-based" financial aid, your income will have no effect on the $20,500 unsubsidized loan offered each year.
You need to complete the Direct Loan Unsubsidized Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling Session at www.studentloans.gov. You will sign both forms using your FSA ID issued from the Department of Education.
During a group session at Frontier/Bridge/DNP Bound, students will meet with the Financial Aid Office and receive a copy of their Award Letter. The Financial Aid Office will review Award Letters and answer any questions. Students will also have the opportunity to request a one-on-one meeting with their Financial Aid Officer to discuss any additional questions or concerns.
Loan funds will be requested from the Department of Education during weeks three and four of each term. The disbursements will be applied to students’ accounts to pay all applicable charges, then the remaining funds will be sent to the students via direct deposit or paper check. Please be aware that due to processing and mailing time, it can take up to 10-14 additional business days to receive a residual via check. Residuals will be disbursed routinely as long as you have completed the hours required for satisfactory academic progress (SAP) and completed the renewal FAFSA.
FNU encourages students to borrowing wisely. In the event a student borrows in excess of direct charges such as tuition and fees, and receives a residual/stipend, the overage may only be used for educational expense such as *room/board, books, educational supplies educational equipment, dependent child care expenses, transportation and rental or purchase of a personal computer.
*Room/board refers to lodging, utilities, and food provided for a fee.
No, the Financial Aid Office will not request loan funds if a student fails to meet SAP for two consecutive terms. The student loses federal financial aid eligibility until they have once again met SAP. Students have the right to appeal this decision. Please access the appeal policy located in the FNU catalog.
Although you are not withdrawing from FNU, you will be withdrawn from the federal student loan program and may enter repayment on your federal student loans. Once you return from AH you will be reinstated into the federal student loan program. If considering an AH, please click here for the complete AH policy.

Since Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is based on attempted credits, you will return on financial aid Warning due to withdrawing from all courses you were attempting during the term in which your EAH was approved. Please note you will remain eligible for financial aid during the Warning term. If at the end of the Warning term it is determined that you have met SAP, you will be removed from Warning. If you do not meet SAP, you will lose federal financial aid eligibility until you once again meet SAP.
The Financial Aid Office is required to notify the Department of Education that you are no longer academically engaged and therefore you will be withdrawn from the federal financial aid program. You may enter repayment on any student loan(s) obtained at another college/university prior to FNU. You will enter your six-month grace period on loans borrowed while at FNU. If you enter repayment and are not financially prepared to make payments, your lender/servicer can assist you with forbearance. When you return from the EAH your loans will re-enter the in-school deferment status.
NOTE: Grad PLUS loans do not have a six month grace period. Payments on a Grad PLUS loan will become due within 45 days of your approved EAH.
The aggregate limit is $138,500. This includes any subsidized/unsubsidized loans borrowed as an undergraduate and is based on your current loan balance. Any payments made reducing your loan balance will be taken into consideration regarding the aggregate loan limit.
Your financial aid will be renewed every three terms using the then-current FAFSA. Generally, the FAFSA is the only financial aid document that must be completed on an annual basis. Your Financial Aid Officer will notify you if additional documents are required.
Yes, you will remain eligible for financial aid. However, your eligibility may be less than the annual limit of $20,500 and you may be placed on financial aid Warning if the course is fewer than three credits.
Effective for all students beginning MSN+DNP or Post-Masters DNP coursework in Winter 2014, tuition charges are based on the number of registered credits multiplied by the current cost per credit hour.
You will not receive mailed tuition statements; however, you will be notified when tuition charges have been applied to your account, at which point you can log into self-service and view your statement.

The Financial Aid Office will update your enrollment status with NSLDS (National Student Loan Data System) within 30 days of the beginning of the term. This should automatically place you in an in-school deferment status on all federal student loans. However, it is strongly encouraged that you contact your lender/servicer every 30 days to verify your status and ensure you remain in good standing. If you have been contacted by your lender to begin repayment while you are still enrolled at FNU, please request an in-school deferment form from them and send it to the Registrar, Sherri Davis (Sherri.Davis@frontier.edu; fax 859-899-2909) after you have completed your section of the form.
