  • What can my student loan refund be used for?
    • FNU encourages students to borrowing wisely. In the event a student borrows in excess of direct charges such as tuition and fees, and receives a residual/stipend, the overage may only be used for educational expense such as *room/board, books, educational supplies educational equipment, dependent child care expenses, transportation and rental or purchase of a personal computer. *Room/board refers to lodging, utilities, and food provided for a fee.
  • Will I be eligible for federal financial aid if I fail to meet SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress)?
    • If you fail to meet SAP you will be placed on Warning. You are eligible to receive federal financial aid during the term you are on Warning.
  • Will I be eligible for federal financial aid if I fail to meet SAP for two consecutive terms?
    • No, Financial Aid Services cannot request loan funds if a student fails to meet SAP for two consecutive terms. The student loses federal financial aid eligibility until they have once again met SAP. Students have the right to appeal this decision. Please access the appeal policy located in the FNU catalog.
  • What happens if I don't enroll for the next term and have already applied for a loan?
    • Please contact your Financial Aid Officer to let them know you will not be enrolled for the next term. We will then cancel any pending loan disbursements.
  • How will an Academic Hiatus (AH) affect my financial aid?
    • Although you are not withdrawing from FNU, you will be withdrawn from the federal student loan program and may enter repayment on any previous federal student loans. When you return from AH, you will be reinstated into the federal student loan program. If considering an AH, please review the catalog for the complete AH policy.
  • How will an Emergency Academic Hiatus (EAH) affect my financial aid?
    • Although you are not withdrawing from FNU, you will be withdrawn from the federal student loan program and may enter repayment on any previous federal student loans. When you return from AH you will be reinstated into the federal student loan program. If considering an AH, please review the catalog for the complete AH policy.
  • How will an Emergency Academic Hiatus (EAH) affect my SAP?
    • Since an Emergency Academic Hiatus (EAH) involves withdrawing from all courses in the current term, this will negatively affect your cumulative completion rate (completed credits/attempted credits). If this results in your completion rate falling below the minimum requirement of 66.67%, you will be placed on financial aid Warning the term you return from EAH. Please note you are still eligible for financial aid during a Warning term. If at the end of the Warning term it is determined that you have met SAP, you will be removed from Warning. If you do not meet SAP, you will lose federal financial aid eligibility until you once again meet SAP.
  • How will an Emergency Academic Hiatus (EAH) affect my current student loans?
    • Financial Aid Services is required to notify the Department of Education that you are no longer academically engaged and therefore you will be withdrawn from the federal financial aid program. You may enter repayment on any student loan(s) obtained at another college/university prior to FNU. You will enter your six-month grace period on loans borrowed while at FNU. If you enter repayment and are not financially prepared to make payments, your lender/servicer can assist you with forbearance. When you return from the EAH your loans will re-enter the in-school deferment status.
  • What is the aggregate limit for subsidized/unsubsidized loans?
    • The aggregate limit is $138,500. This includes any subsidized/unsubsidized loans borrowed as an undergraduate and is based on your current principal loan balance. Any payments made reducing your principal loan balance will be taken into consideration regarding the aggregate loan limit.
  • When should I complete my FAFSA?
    • Students can complete a new FAFSA on October 1st of each year.
  • How do I renew my financial aid?
    • Your financial aid will be renewed every three terms using the then-current FAFSA. Generally, the FAFSA is the only financial aid document that must be completed on an annual basis. Your Financial Aid Officer will notify you if additional documents are required.
  • Am I eligible for financial aid if I only take one course?
    • Yes, you will remain eligible for financial aid. However, your eligibility may be less than the standard $20,500 if you take one course for every term of an award period.
  • How many credits do I have to take to be considered full-time?
    • Effective Summer 2016, a student completing five credits or more is considered full-time.
  • How many credits do I have to take to be considered part-time?
    • A student completing four credits or less is considered part-time.
  • How do I calculate my tuition each term?
    • Your tuition charges are based on the number of registered credits multiplied by the current cost per credit hour.
  • Do we receive tuition statements each term?
    • You will not receive mailed tuition statements; however, you will be notified when tuition charges have been applied to your account, at which point you can log into self-service and view your statement.
  • When is tuition due each term?
    • Tuition is due by the 15th of the first month of each term.
  • When is financial aid released each term?
    • Financial Aid Services will request loan funds from the Department of Education during week three of each term. Loan funds will be processed and applied to student accounts during week four. Residual funds should not be expected any sooner than week five of each term.
  • How do I sign up for direct deposit?
    • You can access the direct deposit form here.
  • Do I have to pay my balance out-of-pocket since financial aid is released after the due date for each term?
    • No. If you have signed up for financial aid, you will not be required to pay your balance out-of-pocket.
  • How do I defer my current student loans?
    • Financial Aid Services will update your enrollment status with NSLDS (National Student Loan Data System) within 30 days of the beginning of the term. This should automatically place you in an in-school deferment status on all federal student loans. However, it is strongly encouraged that you log in to your loan servicer's website every 60 days to verify your status and ensure you remain in good standing. If you have been contacted by your lender to begin repayment while you are still enrolled at FNU, please request an in-school deferment form from them and send it to the Registrar (Registrar@frontier.edu; fax 859-251-4583) after you have completed your section of the form.
