Get to know the people that Couriers interact with during their time in Kentucky...

Tara Dykes began working with Frontier Nursing University in October of 2018 as the first local Courier Program Coordinator. Tara also works as a Development Officer for FNU. Mrs. Dykes obtained her undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Science in Special Education, from Union College in 2009. Tara went on to pursue her Master of Arts in Secondary Education with an English emphasis, also from Union College. A lifelong learner, she has continued pursuing several different teaching certifications and endorsements throughout the years. Tara is currently a doctoral student with Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas, where she hopes to obtain her doctorate in Organizational Leadership. She stepped away as a Rank II certified teacher from the Secondary and Adult Education institutions in 2018, after teaching for approximately six years in various different roles. She felt a passion and calling to "do more" for her community, and she has done just that with Frontier.

Mrs. Dykes is a life-long resident of Leslie County, Kentucky, where the roots of Mary Breckinridge and Frontier Nursing University run deep. Her passion for Frontier and the Courier Program can be seen throughout various walks of her life as she serves as the local Chamber of Commerce Vice President, and through her partnerships with many different agencies, medical centers, and partners throughout the Eastern Kentucky region. She is an advocate of the revitalization of the area and feels strongly that the Courier Program is a vital asset. Tara is a mother of two: a bright and outgoing 8 year old boy, and a rambunctious, sweet 2 year old girl. She enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, traveling, antique shopping, concerts, writing, reading, and collecting Rae Dunn pottery.

Austin Lowe is the Americorps VISTA serving as the Courier Program Assistant. Austin has been serving in this role since September 2019. Mr. Lowe is currently a  full time student at Eastern Kentucky University pursuing his BA in Communication Studies, as well as Political Science. Austin is from Hyden, KY and that is where he currently resides. Mr. Lowe is a devoted Christian and enjoys studying the Bible, reading, playing music, basketball, hiking, and playing with his dog Yugi.

Angela Bailey has a passion for serving Frontier that began many generations ago. Angela, with a bachelor’s in Communication Studies and master’s in Organizational Leadership and a current Doctorate student, is the Chief Advancement Officer for Frontier. Bailey finds joy in helping FNU fulfill its longstanding purpose: To educate nurse-midwives and nurse practitioners to deliver quality care to underserved populations.

“Our mission is as meaningful today as it was when Mary Breckinridge came to the mountains of Eastern Kentucky,” she says. “Knowing that the work I do supports this mission and the work of our graduates all over the world makes it easy to get up in the morning and get to work.” Outside of work, Bailey spends time with her granddaughter and her two dogs. She also enjoys watching horror movies, reading, and painting with acrylics.
